Stitches are OUT!

I wanted to give everyone an update. I went and had my stitches removed today (YAY!) and it hurt like a Mo Fo (it hurt bad)! I will have new pictures up soon of my insicion without stitches. The PA took them out and some were really deep and she had to tug and pull them out. It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. LOL! She ended up not being able to get one out, so she clipped both ends hoping it will push its way out on its own (keep your fingers crossed). I am supposed to keep a close eye on it and make sure it doesn't get infected.

I did learn some new things about the surgery today. So, when I had my surgery they made a football shape insicion, so a skin graph would not be needed (and just stitich the skin together tightly). Well I found out that where the widest part was cut (in the football shape) was not where the mole was (the mole was lower right where the ankle begins). I am kind of concerned that where he dug deep is not where the cancer was or is.

As I am thinking back to the day of the surgery they marked where to do the insicion and I do remember it not being right on top where the mole was, but I didn't think anything of it because I thought he would see where the mole was removed and that would be where he would cut.

I don't know. This is all stuff that has come up today and that has been making me think. I pray and hope that he got the cancer (no matter where he was digging) and even though the lymph nodes came back negative that the cancer (if still there) won't spread.

I do have faith that Dr. Ross is a pro at removing Melanoma and that God is in control of this all.

As Job says..

"But he knows the way that I take;
When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." Job 23:10

"And not only that, but we also glorify in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope." Romans 5: 3,4

I know Job didn't say the other verse, but I had to add it :o).

CANCER FREE Update

EVERYONE... I AM CANCER FREE!!!

Today around 2:30 the P.A. that works with Dr. Ross called me and said she had the results from my biopsy and I said "okay...". She said it was good news and I said oh good! She said Dr. Ross removed 4 lymph nodes out of my groin and they ALL came back negative. He also removed some skin from the ankle area to have it tested and it came back negative. Isn't that just FREAKIN' FANTASTIC!

So now, I have a doctor's appointment August 27 to remove my stitches and to talk with Dr. Ross about the next time I will be seeing him. I will be seeing Dr. Ross quit often for this next year, the following year we won't see eachother as much, and then the 3rd year will be the final year I will see him (if no more skin cancer shows its ugly head). I don't mind... Dr. Ross is pretty nice :o).

One more thing and I know y'all are probably pretty tired of hearing about our insurance dilemas, but good news... as of August 1 are insurance switched to the lower deductable coverage, so we will be getting a refund :o). And yes, the money will be going back to everyone we borrowed it from. God is totally still with us!

Thanks to everyone for your wonderful prayers. I have felt everyone of them and I have never felt like I was alone. We love you all!

Isn't this Crazy?

Okay... so the other day I got new insurance cards from Humana and I just looked to see if anything had changed. And guess what... it showed a lower doctor co-pay, so I was thinking this is odd. I told Bob and asked him to check with the human resource girls at work to see what was going on.

As of August 1 the insurance coverage changed to the lower deductable (from $5000 to $1500). I called MD Anderson and talked to the girl I talked to at first and she said she just deals with new patients, so she told me I need to talk to Richard and that he wouldn't be back until Monday. So, I will be calling him Monday. But, isn't this amazing! We will be getting a REFUND! Well it isn't our money... but we won't owe anyone anything in return. YAY!

Can we say... GOD! Yes, I know this was all God :o). Even though I may feel far from Him sometimes (all my fault)... He is always with me... looking out for me and my family... always concerned about us (this children). Man... How Awesome is He!

To My Mom

I really thought I said something about my mom, but I went back and saw I didn't. Sorry Mom!

My mom came into town Thursday to stay with the girls while I was having my surgery and then to help with them and anything else when I got home. She was such a wonderful help! She had never been with them all day before, but I will have to say she did GREAT! Heidi was a little fussy and my mom just held her and she shut it :o). I know Hailee had such a great time with Grammy because she is still talking about it. Grammy helped organize Hailee's desk and got it all neat and orderly (so she knows what she has and where it all is). Hailee has been painting and coloring QUEEN!

I have also have had somethings brought to my attention while my mom was here and I will have to say it has opened my eyes to some changes that will be happening around the house :o).

I was kind of sad when she left (she left on Sunday evening) because Bob and I both were not ready for her to leave. I was (and still am) having problems getting around the house and was worried about how I was going to care for Hailee and Heidi on my own. But, God was and is in control the whole time and He is really working in this house.

Trusting God in Suffering

"Though He slay me, yet I will trust Him.
Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him."
Job 13:15

God is powerful enough to take even the worst circumstances and bring good from them.

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren."
Romans 8:28,29

Recovery

I just thought maybe I should make a post on how my recovery is going.

I am doing a lot better than the first day (well of course... we would hope so :o). Each day has gotten a little better. Yesterday (Monday) I wasn't to the point where I could be home by myself, so Bob took off Monday. I still was a little nervous about being home by myself with the girls today, but Bob had to go back to work. A friend of mine, Hannah offered to watch Hailee one day and I thought that would work so great. I called Hannah and we worked out that Hailee would go with Mason to a Parent's Day Out type thing at Westwood Gymnastics and than after that go over to her house for a few hours to play. Then Hannah will bring Hailee back around 3:00. What a blessing! I don't know how I would of held up if I had another kiddo to care for. LOL! I am sure I would have survived, but it was so much easier on me :o).

This morning around 8:30 Hannah was here to get Hailee and off they went :o). Heidi has been a perfect little baby today. She hasn't cried or whinned the whole time it has been her and I. So, YAY! Heidi is napping right now and hopefully will sleep until 3:00 and then Hailee will be home. Bob is going to be getting off earlier than usual today to come home and help :o).

I am so thankful for all the wonderful friends Bob and I have and to be so loved by them all. Everyone has done something... I know a lot of people have prayed for us, brought us food, watched our kiddos and it all means the world to us. I could never put it in words... thank you!

My ankle is doing a lot better. At first it was so very painful I couldn't even walk on it. I sat on my butt for 2 days because of the pain. The third day I was able to "wooble" around with not so much pain. The forth day to now the ankle is not painful (until the end of the day or pounded on by a little one or hit by a dogs tail) it is just stitched so tight that it is hard to bend at all. My ankle is still swollen but it is trying to get back to normal.

The doctors made two footballl shaped insicions and then stretched the skin and stitched it to eachother. I can think of one person who is going to love this post (Misty :o). I would say the insicions are about 4 to 5 inches long and there are about 14+ stitches in my ankle. :o)

I hope everyone is doing well. Thanks

The reason I for the gum...

I forgot to add why I was chewing gum yesterday before my surgery. We were on our way to the hospital and I realized I forgot to brush my teeth. My breath didn't stink because I brushed my teeth at 1:00 a.m. and got up at 6:00 a.m. We had to stop and get gas so I ran in and got gum. What a huge mistake! Oh well...

Surgery Day!

Today was surgery day and let me tell you it didn't start out how I had envisioned. So let me begin from the very beginning...

Yesterday someone from MD Anderson called Bob and said they were trying to get a hold of me all day, but I had no missed calls (it was weird). The guy who called Bob said that we needed to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. When Bob told me this I was like... WHAT? That is not what I was told. I had a schedule that MD Anderson had sent me a few weeks ago, so I called and was going to make sure that this was really what was going on. I talked to 4 different people and only one person said the schedule did change and that my surgery was going to be at 7:30 a.m. instead of 11:15 a.m. Then finally I talked to someone in the Anesthesia Center and she told me that my schedule had changed, but that I had to come and see the Anesthesiologist first and that the surgery was going to be pushed back.I felt bad and all I could imagine was Dr. Ross and everyone being all scrubbed in and ready to go. I knew this wasn't right, but I talked to people and they told me to stick with my schedule I received in the mail.

This morning we headed out the door at 7:00 a.m. and guess who called Dr. Yang (a doctor working with Dr. Ross). He was wondering what was going on, so I told him all who I talked to and what they said. He said ok, but the surgery time did change. He understood and he said it wasn't my fault. I still felt bad.

As soon as I got to MD Anderson we head straight to surgery check-in. I went to the window and told the lady my last name and she said Sterling... LOL! Bob said they were waiting for us... LOL! I filled the paper work out and then I sat for maybe 5 minutes and they came to get me and take me back.

I got changed into the beautiful robe and one knee high sock (lol!). They asked me TONS of questions and then came to the questions if I had eaten or drank anything since midnight. I told them I did drink some water this morning (because I was so thirsty) and then I told them I chewed gum. CHEWING GUM IS BAD! A BIG FAT NO NO! Chewing gum is like eating and when you chew gum there is a huge risk. Anyways to make a long story short we went ahead with the surgery (no delays). I got my IV (with no problems... I am such a bad stick), got my drugs running in may veins, I was rolled to the surgery room, I switched beds, they gave me some gas, and next thing I know I am in dream land.

Next thing I know I am being woken up by the Anesthesiologist by saying to do something to get the tube out of my throat. I didn't feel anything, but then I was awake but couldn't keep my eyes open. They moved me on to another bed, rolled me into a recovery room. I slept, woke up, asked for Bob (5 times), asked for more drugs (probably about 5 injections of something), and asked for ice chips. I was so out of it. LOL!

So, this is what Dr. Ross did. He made two incisions in my ankle area and made a small incision in my groin. He removed a couple lymph nodes and he will biopsy those and if there is just one cancerous cell found I will have another surgery to remove all the lymph nodes in the groin. Right now I am in so much pain in my ankle. Bob went to Wal-Mart and bought me some crutches because it hurts to put any pressure on my foot.

It was a good productive day and I am so glad it is all over :o). Thank you all for all your prayers and thoughts and comments. They all mean the world to me.

I am a little drugged up, so if this doesn't make sense... SORRY! :o)

Oklahoma Trip

We got back last night from our extra long weekend in Oklahoma. It was a GREAT get away! We got to my dad's house Thursday night and it was so late we didn't do much :o). Friday we tried to go swimming but it was a little to chilly. Some of Tracy (my step-moms family came over and had HUGE crab legs with us. These crab legs literally were bigger than Hailee's arm. They were ENORMOUS! After dinner we watched a movie in the new man house. LOL! Saturday we were on our way to the lake house off Tenkiller Lake. It was perfect we had our own part of the house where the kids (and us) could sleep with no disturbances. It was so great! We swam in the lake, had a good ole time on the boat, and played on the sea doos. It was so AWESOME! We didn't have to do anything (except take care of the kids). We came back from the lake on Monday and came back and swim a bit. Then it was time to come home on Tuesday. Let me tell you all... HEIDI IS THE WORST CAR RIDER EVER! The girl couldn't not whine for 30 min. (unless she was sleeping and that was very little). The trip was good and Heidi hung in there very well. Hailee had the best time! She didn't want to leave but I told her we had to get home because Grammy was going to be here soon. So that helped leaving a little easier. The trip was well needed and it was so fun!

I will post some pictures very soon. It is late right now and I should be in bed, but I knew I had to post this or who knows when it would happen. LOL!

My mom is coming in town tomorrow night and is going to stay with the girls on Friday while I have my surgery. She is going to stay until Sunday, so that will be nice. I am going okay... I am a little worried (not scared yet). I keep thinking of bad things.... but I am not going to get into them (so don't ask). I know everything will be fine. My very loving and merciful God is always with me and I know he will be there with Dr. Ross.

I am a little nervous about the whole not eating. My blood surgar gets really low when I don't eat and I can get pretty sick. I guess if you want to pray for me... could you add this to your list?

OMG... I need to go to bed. Good Night all
